The mission of the Guild of Irish Lacemakers (GOIL) is to preserve, promote and develop Irish Lace. In accordance with this mission we are always interested in attracting attention to this specialised craft which has been practiced in Ireland for hundreds of years. Lace has an important position in Ireland’s material culture especially relating to women and early female entrepreneurship.
There are many types of Irish Lace and what is special about the Guild of Irish Lacemakers is that we try to promote and teach all of them. Therefore we’ll cover a range of laces but the ones that we will focus on are:
- Irish Crochet
- Tatting
- Bobbin
- Carrickmacross
- Mountmellick
- Limerick
For more information on the different types of Irish lace please refer to GOIL website: types-of-lace
