The Lace Guild of Northern Ireland

Lace Guild Northern Ireland commenced in 1987. Its founding members were Mrs Thelma Goldring and Susan Taylor (née Latham). 

The Guild is now in its 35th year. 

The aim of the Guild is to encourage and nurture the making of Lace, especially the Irish Laces,  so that future generations do not lose the art of making traditional lace in Ireland.

Location: Belfast


Lace Days: Every second Saturday of the month September to June, in the Lagan Room at the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum

Some of the laces they celebrate, practice and teach:

  • Carrickmacross (needle), 
  • Limerick (needle), 
  • Youghal (needle); 
  • Irish Crochet, 
  • Clones (crochet); 
  • Mountmellick (needle);  
  • Tatting (using a shuttle); 
  • Drawn Thread (needle); and 
  • Bobbin (including English and Continental) laces.
